January 2026 Exhibition…coming soon

Pleasure in the Pathless Wood.

An exhibition of paintings by John Fairfield

Why do we love animals so much? It may be that we see animals as extensions of us – as part of life. Animals don’t lie, cheat, hate or discriminate. Animals have infinite and immeasurable qualities. They are an endless yet enjoyable miracle of nature and they have an incredible intuition. They can sense everything about you. So it is no wonder that these incredible creatures are considered our best friends for the past ten thousand years.

My work hopefully conveys my love and admiration for the natural world and the flora and fauna which inhabit it.

“There is a pleasure in the pathless wood,

There is a rapture on the lonely shore

I love not man the less, but nature more”

                                              George Gordon Byron.

John is an Irish freelance wildlife artist who has been based in Canberra since 2022.  Born in a small village outside Belfast in Northern Ireland, the Irish woodlands, shorelines of Strangford Lough and the rural landscape, instilled in him a deep-rooted love of nature and wildlife. Never wanting to be locked into a single painting style John constantly explores different artistic disciplines and mediums.

John exhibited widely in Belfast in the 1990s and 2000s. While living in Vietnam, he had joint and solo exhibitions in Hanoi. Since settling in Canberra, John has contributed paintings to Radford College Art Shows, Rusten House Queanbeyan, and the Art Society of Canberra Spring Exhibitions.
