Ray has been working as a professional artist since 1988. His past exhibitions have been as a result of visits (usually on his push bike) to Cuba, Vietnam, Ireland, Spain, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Venice, London and recently Jakarta. The subjects of his paintings are generally people at work or play – as a narrative of the times. Ray’s watercolours are mostly exhibited in Canberra and on the South Coast.
Ray has won hundreds of awards with over 30 as first or 'best in show' and include national prizes. His past 25 exhibitions have covered many themes usually focusing on a particular area or activity -for example- horse races or jazz musicians.
Overseas buyers include the Irish, Hungarian and Vietnamese Embassies. Commissioned paintings have been presented to Federal Members of Parliament. The Royal National Capital Agricultural Society purchased the paintings entered in the "Living and Working on the Land" theme competition for 2005 and 2006. Old Parliament House purchased a major work and used the image for their 2002 Christmas card. A commissioned painting was presented to the Crown Prince of Thailand.
Paintings and especially drawings have been reproduced as prints, cards and illustrations and covers for several books. view paintings
